You may have heard of pickleball, the addictive sport that’s gaining popularity around the world. A fun combo of tennis, badminton, and ping pong, it's played with paddles and a plastic ball with holes. Everyone seems to be hooked and here are some reasons it could be your new favourite sport!

#1: It’s easy to learn and play.

One of the biggest advantages of pickleball is its gentle learning curve. Even if you have never played racket sports or picked up a racket, you can probably learn it quite quickly and get a simple game going right off the bat. The rackets are lighter and easier to handle than tennis rackets, and the courts are smaller. There are, of course, rules once you get a better grip of the game, but the great thing is that most people can pick it up fairly easily.

#2: It's a game for all ages.

Whether you’re 8 or 80, and whatever your fitness level, you can play pickleball and have a blast. The accessibility of pickleball is that young kids can learn easily, and older folks can participate with less risk of injury, as the sport is low-impact and easier on the joints than many other sports. It's a great way for families to bond and play together, as everyone can be involved at their own level.

#3: It’s a great workout.

When you're playing pickleball, you're constantly moving: jogging, backpedaling, and sprinting to hit the ball. Your heart rate goes up, and it’s great for the cardiovascular system, while being easier on the joints than other types of more high-impact cardio, like running. Pickleball can also build strength and endurance, as well as train coordination and balance, and up your general fitness level over time.

#4: It can also be competitive, for those looking for something more challenging.

While being accessible to beginners, pickleball is also popular for those with competitive streaks. When played at high speeds and advanced skill levels, the competition at tournaments and leagues is intense! Add in strategy, communication and teamwork for doubles games, and pickleball is as competitive and exciting as any other sport.

#5: It's a Social Activity.

Pickleball is very much a social game that is played with friends, family, and new acquaintances. The atmosphere is always friendly, and it's a great way to make new connections and build community. With courts being smaller, it’s easy to communicate and bond. Plus, it’s good fun that encourages you to get out and get moving.
